Yellow areas are sidewalks. The sidewalk along the north side of the building (top of drawing) is new. It leads from the corner of Playground and Parkview, under the roof of the main entranceway to the parking lot in the rear.
Detail of building plans:
A: Apparatus room. This is where the fire apparatus and
firefighters' turnout gear is stored. The ramp from the apparatus
room leads out to Parkview Road.
B: Communications room. Communication equipment and computers
are used in this room to coordinate the efforts of the fire
department and other Borough agencies in the event of a major
emergency or other event.
C: Lounge.
D: Kitchen.
E: Porch. An outdoor patio where firefighters can get a breath
of fresh air.
F: Work room and tool room. Our tools are stored in this room,
and work space is provided for the firefighters to perform periodical
maintenance and minor repairs to our firefighting equipment.
G: Laundry and cleaning room. This room is used to wash
firefighters' turnout gear and firefighting tools.
H: Electrical closet.
I: Generator room. Parts of the entire building will be
powered by generator, so that the building can maintain all necessary
functions in the event of a major emergency and power outage.
J: Men's bunk room.
K: Men's toilet and showers.
L: Women's toilet and showers.
M: Women's bunk room.
N: Storage.
O: This storage room is the size of a garage and features an
overhead door which leads out to the rear parking lot. The room was
designed to store large items which may not fit through a
regular-size door. If necessary, this room can be used to house an
auxiliary firefighting vehicle, borough truck, police car, ambulance, etc.
P: Toilets.
Q: Exercise room. Exercise equipment in this room is used by
the firefighters to stay physically fit. Evidence has shown that
heart attacks are the number one cause of firefighter deaths, and the
best way to prevent heart attacks is to stay in shape. Stronger
firefighters are also more capable of performing the physically
demanding work involved with being a firefighter.
R: Training and meeting room. This room is where firefighting
classes are taught, and monthly fire department meetings are held.
Public meetings for other purposes can also be held here.
S: Main lobby. This area is right inside the main entrance and
leads directly into the training/meeting room, the company offices
and the apparatus room.
T: Company office. This office accommodates the business
officers of the fire company, and a window from this office will face
the main lobby for reception purposes.
U: Offices of fire chief and fire line officers, and file storage.
V: Hose drying and training tower. This tall chamber is used
for hanging wet fire hose to dry, to prevent mildew and prolong the
useful life of the hose. This tower was also designed to be used for
high-angle rescue training.
This building was designed to be versatile and serve the Borough in many possible situations, emergencies as well as everyday uses.
The building is handicapped accessible, always has power, and has
complete living facilities inside. In the event of a major disaster
or long-term power outage, some Borough residents, especially the
elderly and handicapped, can be provided temporary shelter here.
