There are three types of Membership in West Reading Fire Department: Active, Semi-Active, and Inactive. Listed below are brief descriptions of each type of membership. For more information about the responsibilities and benefits of membership, see our "Questions & Answers" page.

Active members are the firefighters and fire police, who regularly attend training classes and drills, respond to fires and other emergencies, and participate in the company's occasional fund-raising activities. Active members can be firefighters or Fire Police. (For more information about fire police, visit our Road Safety & Fire Police page.)

Semi-Active members are those kind souls who have no interest in fighting fires or other dangerous activities, but are good enough to help us out with events like our annual chicken barbecues, Kiddies' Christmas Parties, and administrative and non-emergency work. We are a 100% volunteer fire company, and a non-profit organization too, so we need administrative officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer) as well as firefighters. The people who help us out during non-emergency activities are just as important to us as our firefighters!

Inactive members are those who do not participate in either emergency work or fund-raising, but their membership and support is very important to us as well. Inactive members enjoy the benefits of discounts on items which the fire company sells, such as smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

As a volunteer company, we can never have too many members. If membership appeals to you or you'd just like to know more about it, we encourage you to click here to email the Company Secretary or contact one of our members in person regarding any questions you might have. The easiest way to reach one of our active members or officers would be to stop by the station at 223 Playground Drive in West Reading on Wednesday nights about 6:00 (before the start of our weekly training drill).

If you, or someone you know would be interested in becoming a member of the fire company, click here for a Senior membership application. (If you are under 18, please see our Junior Brigade page for more information and a Junior application.) Print the application, fill out the requested information and return it in person or by mail to the fire company (our mailing address is: 223 Playground Drive, West Reading, PA 19611) along with $10.00 to cover processing of your application and your first year's membership dues. (Please make check or money order payable to West Reading Fire Company.)
