Things ALL kids should know:

1. Matches and lighters are NOT TOYS! Mom or Dad should keep these things away from all kids in a safe place where only grown-ups can get them. Kids should never play with gasoline, kerosene or space heaters either! All of these things can start a fire and hurt you!

2. If there is a fire in your house, follow your escape plan. If you don't have a plan, talk to Mom or Dad. Help them make up an escape plan for your house.

3. If you have to escape from a fire in your house, crawl on the floor to stay under the smoke. Feel every door with the back of your hand before you open it! If it is hot, don't open it! Use your other way out to escape.

4. If your clothes catch on fire, STOP, DROP AND ROLL! First, STOP right where you are! Don't run! Then, DROP to the ground. Cover your face! Then, ROLL sideways, back and forth, to smother the fire!

5. If you have a fire or another kind of emergency in your house, pick up the phone and call 9 1 1. But ONLY call 9 1 1 if there is an EMERGENCY like a fire, if someone is trying to hurt you or break into your house, or if something is wrong with Mom or Dad and they can't help you.

6. Firefighters are your friends! If your house is on fire, firefighters will come to help you. Don't hide under the bed, in a closet or anywhere else. When firefighters come into your house during a fire, they will help you escape. They will look and sound funny because of the special clothing they wear, but don't be scared of them!

Here are some fun things for kids to do!

Click on the blue links below. Each link will open a picture in your web browser. All you need to do then is print out each picture. (You might want to ask for mom or dad's help.) Then have fun coloring, connecting the dots, or drawing!

Each drawing will appear in a separate browser window. After you print out each drawing, you can return to this page by using your browser's "Back" button.
