Fire Prevention Open House

On Wednesday October 7th we will be hosting our annual Fire Prevention Week "Open House".  Please stop by the station that night from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. for a chance to meet your local volunteer firefighters.  We will have free food and games for the kids.  You will be able to tour the station and see the fire apparatus.  We hope to see you there!  



Utility 64 in service...

Tuesday, July 7, 2015  Utility 64 has been officially placed into service with the department effective 7/1/15. The new unit has already responded to several emergency calls and is working well for the department.  Look for it around West Reading, serving the department and the community.  Thank you to the West Reading Borough Council for equipping the department with the best, most up to date and efficient equipment to allow us to serve the public!



Traffic 64 now in service

Sunday, June 28, 2015   In addition to the delivery of Utility 64, the department has taken delivery of our first traffic unit for our Fire Police.  This 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup which had been used by the Borough's Code Enforcement Department up until last year has been converted into "Traffic 64."  The unit will carry the necessary equipment to close off roadways for emergency incidents.  Look for it on a street near you!



Burn Session at the Training Site

Wednesday, June 24, 2015   Tonight our members along with members of the Kenhorst Fire Company participated in a burn session at the Berks County Fire Training Site.  We performed several burn evolutions for the crews to experience live fire situations.



Utility 64 has arrived!

Tuesday, June 23, 2015   Utility 64 was delivered on Saturday. Thanks to Kovatch Ford and KME Fire Apparatus for your work to get it prepared. Next up is installation of radios and emergency lighting. We anticipate placing it in service next week. 



Hydrant Flushing starts Tuesday

Monday, April 20, 2015 8:00  The WRFD will be conducting hydrant flushing of all fire hydrants in the Borough starting Tuesday night at 8:00 PM. We should complete the flushing by no later than 11:00 PM each night this week. During the flushing you might experience cloudy or dis-colored water and/or reduced water pressure. The system should return to normal 30 minutes after we complete for the night. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Borough Hall at 610-374-8273.

Saturday, February 7, 2015   At our annual Firefighters Recognition Banquet we honored Firefighter Nick Stoner as our 2015 Firefighter of the Year and Gregg Braley as our Fire Police Officer of the Year.  Congratulations to these two members and thanks for your work to support the WRFD!

Thursday, January 22, 2015   The West Reading Fire Department would like to congratulate retired fire chief Edward Fabriziani on his recent retirement from the West Reading Police Department after 25 years of service.  Congratulations and good luck Chief!
