Accident with Entrapment
5th & Penn
Avenues, West Reading
In a
high-traffic area like West Reading, accidents are bound to happen.
When an accident happens, we can only hope that it's as minor as
possible. But when a major accident happens, residents and travelers
in West Reading can rest assured that their fire department is there
for them, with a little help from one of our neighboring departments.
The
accident pictured below happened at the intersection of 5th and Penn
Avenues, the busiest intersection in West Reading. The occupant of
the car was trapped in the car. The force of the impact made it
impossible to get the doors open, so our first-due rescue company,
West Lawn Fire Company, brought the tools needed to cut the roof off
the car in order to save the life of the patient.

This photo was taken long after the roof had been cut off and the patient had been taken to the hospital. The roof of the vehicle can be seen resting on top of the vehicle. |
|
A wheel chock from our Engine was used to prevent the car from rolling backward while we were attempting to free the patient. |

At the other end of the block, West Lawn Fire Police Officer Donald Miller keeps the road closed for the safety of the firefighters, and to prevent traffic jams near the accident. |
